Eagles vets to play rookies at Because You Care Cup
Road hockey tournament set for Saturday in Membertou
A rough, pavement playing surface will replace the familiarity of a slick ice rink for members of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles taking part in the annual Because You Care Cup road hockey tournament.
Veteran players for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team will take on their rookie counterparts in a fun game at 3 p.m. in Membertou.
“The Because You Care Cup is an incredible event for the community,” said Shaun MacNeil, the community events manager for the Eagles, in a press release.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of it and I know the players are excited to get out and play some street hockey.”
The game is open to the public and free of charge.
The Eagles will be among more than 50 teams that hit the streets of Membertou for the tournament that raises money for cancer research in Cape Breton.
“We are thankful to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for contributing to strengthening health care in Cape Breton,” said Brad Jacobs, the CEO of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital
Foundation, in a press release.
“The Eagles are longtime supporters of the foundation through the annual Pink at the
Rink and Irish jersey games, which have raised tens of thousands of dollars for cancer care in Cape Breton. This is just another
example of their team wanting to give back.”
