It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ethel Lillian Barrett, age 95 of Seaview Manor on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, Ethel was the daughter of the late Fred and Lillian (Buckland) Wadden. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Ethel was a long time resident of Beacon Street, Glace Bay. She was a kind and gentle soul who loved nothing more than to share what she had with others. Ethel was a hard worker and spent many years employed at Commercial Insurance Agencies in Glace Bay and then J.A. Young and Son in Sydney. She enjoyed the many lasting friendship­s she made while working. In later years she looked forward to Saturday Night get togethers with her family for tea and sweets.

Ethel is survived by her son, Wayne (Nancy), Truro; daughter-in-law, Judy, Stellarton, NS; four grandchild­ren, Christian (Stephanie) Barrett, Erica (Andy Mansavage), Jennifer (Tasha Hafey) Barrett, Adam (Sarah MacDonald) Barrett and three great-grandchild­ren, Hannah Barrett, Aila and Wyatt Mansavage.

Ethel was predecease­d by her husband, Joe Barrett (1992); son, Dr. Bruce Barrett (1997); brothers, Gussie, Johnny and sisters, Rita and Doris.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mae Barrett and Brett Gillis for their many acts of kindness.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 17th at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception. Rev. Ruby Carter officiatin­g. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Ethel may be made to the NS Alzheimer’s Associatio­n or St. Mary’s Church, Glace Bay.
