Paul Joseph Bonin, age 78 passed away peacefully at his home in St. Margaret’s Village on Friday, September 14, 2018, surrounded by family.

Paul was an avid outdoorsma­n who loved to hunt, fish and generally rough it in the outdoors. He had great affection for Northern Canada and the time he spent there. He was a family and community man involved in many organizati­ons; Harbour Authority, Fire Department and St. Margaret’s of Scotland Church among others. He was very proud of his children and their many accomplish­ments. Everything he did was done with the same signature sense of humour and love of life and everyone around him.

He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Annette; sons, Michael (Anne) Bonin, and Joseph (Laurie) Bonin; daughters, Barbara MacDonald, Paula Bonin, and Samantha Bonin; grandchild­ren, Hailey (Thomas) Rees, Logan MacDonald, Eryn (Bill) Gregory, Jonathon MacDonald and four great-grandchild­ren. He is also survived by his siblings, Anna LaRose, Frank (Verene) Bonin, Amable (Judy) Bonin, Cecilia (Wayne) Poirier and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and god-children.

Paul was predecease­d by his parents, Amable and Margaret (Broussell) Bonin; his sister, Cecilia Howlett and brother, Rodrick “Roddie” Bonin.

The family would like to thank the many people who helped during Paul’s time in palliative care, particular­ly Dr. John Ritter, Wanda Barron and Abbigail MacKinnon, as well as the many people who provided support, especially Patsy MacKinnon, Karl MacKinnon, Francis MacKinnon, and Amy MacKinnon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Buchanan Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are entrusted to J. M. Jobes Funeral Home Ltd, Sydney Mines, with burial service entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd. in Arichat.

Visitation for Paul Bonin will be in the Fr. James McLean Room in St. Margaret’s of Scotland church in St. Margaret’s Village on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s of Scotland church in St. Margaret’s Village, Fr. Alphonse Iwuji officiatin­g.

Burial will take place at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption cemetery in Arichat on the morning of September 21.
