MACISAAC, Greta Joyce

-

North Sydney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Greta Joyce MacIsaac, age 81, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Greta was born in Mill Creek, October 20, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Elric and Marion (Marsh) Rendell. She was employed at the Northside General Hospital until her retirement and truly enjoyed the long-lasting friends she made there. She was a genuinely kind, giving and loving person always caring more about others than herself. She enjoyed spending time with crafts such as crossstitch, ceramics and crocheting where she made several items over the years for family. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, volunteered as a Eucharist Minister for the sick, church lector and helping with lunch for funeral receptions. She was also for over 50 years a member of Marion Helpers providing Mass cards.

Greta is survived by her two sons, Bruce (Denise) MacIsaac, Ottawa and Blair (Annette) MacIsaac, Saskatchewan; by her seven grandchildren, Holly (Bo), Brandon (Brandi), Josh, Tiffany, Matthew, Jadyn and Addyson; by her sister, Norma Steele, Sydney; her brother, John (Shirley) Rendell, Bras d’Or; a number of nieces and nephews. Greta will be missed by her special friends and neighbours, Trish MacIsaac and Dena (Boutilier) Quinn, who cared and helped her in so many ways, the family will be forever grateful.

A great loss to Greta was when her beloved husband of over 50 years, Billy MacIsaac, predeceased her in 2012. Besides her parents she was also predeceased by brothers, Wayne Rendell in infancy and Eric Rendell at five years old.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the Northside General Hospital, for the special personal care Greta was given and to her long-time Doctor, John Kirkpatrick.

Visitation for Greta will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
