McDONALD, Patricia

-

Patricia McDonald (née Bates), age 97, born in New Waterford, December 5, 1920, died peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney on October 2, 2018. She was a daughter of the late Patrick and Delina Bates.

She is survived by her siblings, Velma MacDonald (Allister), Anna Hines and Cyril Bates (Dorothy MacKenzie). She will be fondly remembered by her large extended family including many nieces and nephews. Patricia was predeceased by her husband, William Ross, in 2012; her brother, Alphonsus Bates and her sisters, Selica, Theresa and Dolina.

Patricia spent most of her working life in local financial institutions. In later years she enjoyed her retail experience. Pat, as she was familiarly known, had an enormous “joie de vivre”. From the time she was young she expressed herself in style and could be counted on to be ahead of the fashion trends. Her trademark was her hats.

She loved to dance and enjoyed this pastime well into her 80s, organizing events at her treasured Florida park where friends and family enjoyed many winter months. She will also be fondly remembered for the lovely crocheted afghans and delicate jewelry she created. Pat considered Catalone her second home and shared her love of it with family and friends.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held there at a date to be determined. We wish to thank the staff at Harbourstone, especially the staff of Mira Bay, for their devoted care. Cremation has taken place. Donations on her behalf can be made to the Main-a Dieu Coastal Discovery Centre, 2886 Louisbourg Maina-Dieu Rd., Main-a-Dieu, Nova Scotia, B1C 1X5. Tel: 902-7332258
