PECK, Maurice ‘Moe’

Maurice ‘Moe’ Patrick Peck, 90, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Dad was born and brought up on Henry Street in Whitney Pier and was educated at the Sydney Academy. He was also an honorary letterman of the College of Cape Breton. Dad was an avid sports fan and in his early days coached little league baseball in the Pier and hockey, with his last action behind the bench of the Devco Steamers. He followed his children in their sports endeavours and could be found at many a Sydney Academy and College of Cape Breton hockey game.

Dad had a successful career in sales retiring from W.N. White and Company of Halifax where he delighted his customers with his professionalism and sharp Cape Breton wit. He developed lasting relationships throughout his business career with many people around the Atlantic Provinces.

Dad was predeceased by his parents, George and Catherine (Baldwin) Peck, and his loving wife, Catherine (Lake).

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by 14 siblings, Carrie, John, Sr. Catherine Hugh, Sr. Georganna, Sr. Mary Irene, Joseph, Margaret, Clifton, Florence, Dorothy, Cecilia, Jenny, George and Blanche.

He is survived by his five loving children, Paula (Gary) Kennedy, Michael (Jo-Ann), Theresa Peck-MacLennan, Cathy (John MacDonald) and Janet (Michael) Degiobbi.

He was proud of his roots and family and has 14 grandchildren, Tracey Andrews, Mark Kennedy, Matthew and Erin Peck, Stephen Hendrixson, Anna Falls, Logan and Cameron MacLennan, Beth, Emma and Charlotte MacDonald, Ryan and Jennifer Degiobbi, Chelsea MacDonald. He was also blessed with 11 greatgrandchildren, Caylin, Josh, Riley, Emiley, Alistair, Jack, Corinne, Tyll, Gia, Jenna, Clara.

We the family of Maurice Peck extend a heartfelt thank you to those who have helped Dad along his path over the final years of his life including his friends living on Carleah Drive, his final residence at My Cape Breton Home for Seniors including all the staff and new friends made during his stay there; and finally, the professional and compassionate staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital floor 4c and Dr. Murdock Smith.

A service will be held at Holy Redeemer Church in Whitney Pier on Saturday, October 13 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the lower level of the church.
