We, the family of Dennis Adrian Gallivan, regret to announce his passing on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.

Born November 12, 1939, in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Frank and Bridget Gallivan.

Dennis was the manager at Shore’s Grocery, Glace Bay and later retired from Thornes Hardware in Sydney. He was a member of the former St. Alphonsus Church, South Bar, as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 138, Ashby and the KOC, Sydney. Active and outgoing, Dennis participat­ed in many different sports and had a passion for carpentry. He was an 18-year cancer and TB survivor.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Anne (MacAskill); daughter, Denise Gallivan, Montreal; sons, Richard (Patricia), Montreal and Kevin (Patricia Hoeg), Sydney; grandchild­ren, Roman, Ben, Creighton, Channing, Mitchell, Terry Anne, Stacy, Jamie, Liam, Megan, Danny and Shannon and three great-grandchild­ren.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his sister, Edith MacKinnon.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 20 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m., with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiatin­g. Interment will take place at a later date.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff of 4 East at the Northside General Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Dennis.
