100 Women Rural Cape Breton assist Inverness Hospital Auxiliary
The Inverness Hospital Auxiliary is the beneficiary of 100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton’s second annual event.
The group hosted the event on Oct. 18 at the Strathspey Performing Arts Centre in Mabou. Despite snow and hail, more than 100 women from across rural Cape Breton, took part.
Three local charities were randomly selected from a pool of organizations that were nominated. The presenters included the Friends of St. John Arichat Society, Port Hastings Museum and Inverness Hospital Auxiliary. Each group made a five-minute pitch to the audience, and the women at the meeting voted for the group that made the most compelling case.
The evening’s winner was the Inverness Hospital Auxiliary, which took home more than $14,000. The Friends of St. John Arichat Society and Port Hastings Museum will automatically be entered in the 2019 draw.
Interested women are encouraged to join the movement and get ready to participate in next year’s event by registering to be a member at www.100 womenruralcapebreton.com (click on Get Involved). The group is actively seeking nominations for additional charities in the region. They can be submitted by email to 100womenruralcapebreton@gmail.com to let the group know who you think would make a deserving recipient of funds raised by 100 Women Who Care.
Once groups are nominated, officials with Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton will verify that they are registered as a charity with Canada Revenue Agency.
The Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton’s next meeting will be held in Port Hawkesbury on Oct. 23rd, 2019.
