Church hosting tribute to Parris

‘Eddie’s music really affected a lot of people’

Knox United Church is hosting a tribute concert for the late Eddie Parris on October 27.

The musician and former municipal politician from Whitney Pier died on March 31 at the age of 75. He was known and loved for his dedication to the community and to the Inspiratio­nal Singers which he led. The former steelworke­r spent 11 years as an alderman for the Whitney Pier ward on the former Sydney city council and he served as deputy mayor.

The Jubilee Gospel Soul Singers, another group he helped lead, will perform at the event. This will be the latest in a series of tribute concerts they have done for Parris since he died.

“Our beautiful sanctuary is the perfect venue for musical events. It’s a really spiritual place and the music promises to be uplifting and full of joy,” said Rev. Alison Etter who presides over Knox United and

“It’s especially an honour to be hosting a concert in tribute to Eddie Parris, who was an outstandin­g musician in our area. Eddie’s music really affected a lot of people. It had spiritual and emotional depth that touched people’s spirits. Saturday night, we’ll be rememberin­g him and continuing to share the message of love and peace he promoted.”

The concert starts at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 at the door.

“We love to open our doors to people of all faiths and background­s. We really see our church as a place for the whole community to gather and celebrate,” Etter said.
