ServiCom workers finally get their pay

-

Employees at a Sydney call centre have finally received pay for work they did earlier this month.

The nearly 700 workers at the ServiCom facility, located in the Sydney Shopping Centre, had been waiting 10 days for their pay that should have been deposited in their bank accounts on Oct. 19. But, that was the same day the call centre’s parent company, New Jersey-based JNET Communications, filed for bankruptcy protection, leaving employees at the Sydney facility upset about not being paid and concerned for their jobs.

By 3 p.m. on Monday, cheques were made available to employees, many who came in to receive them in person.

“It’s been a tough go, but I think we’re over it now,” said call centre manager Todd Riley, who ordered the cheques last week.

As of last Friday, the payroll was still not in ServiCom’s account, so management did not hand out cheques at that time.

Riley said he doesn’t anticipate any issues with the next payday, which is Friday of this week.

ServiCom moved to the Sydney Shopping Centre location (the former Target and Zellers store) two years ago from its former premises on Kings Road where it had been operating since 1999 when it was originally called Ron Weber and Associates.

The call centre presently has four major accounts – OnStar, Sirius XM, AT&T and Allstate Insurance.
