The Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. has issued another tender for renovations to its Sydney River location.

The tender lists renovations for signature retail stores and also includes locations in Bridgewater and Halifax on the mainland. The closing date for the tender is Nov. 8.

NSLC spokesperson Beverley Ware said the Portland Street store in Dartmouth was the first to be renovated as a signature store and these three locations are next.

“We issued the tender for the three stores together to realize efficiencies,” she said. “We anticipate the tender will be awarded and the work to begin after Christmas.”

The Sydney River store is 5,700 square feet and construction at this location is tentatively scheduled to begin at the end of January.

“This (work) was part of our beverage/alcohol store renovation plan that was already in place before we learned we (would) be offering cannabis,” she said. “We had developed a plan to renovate certain stores on a given schedule.”

Following the renovations, the Sydney River location will offer premium wine and spirits tasting units, a limited finds section and a walk-in refrigerated

area known as the cool zone.

The signature stores also have a specially trained product specialist to assist customers.

Ware said they haven’t seen any downward trends in beverage/alcohol sales since cannabis product was offered at the Sydney River location.

The NSLC has also recently

issued a tender for the first part of a two-phase renovation of its New Waterford location. Renovations were also recently announced for the Whitney Pier store and the Cheticamp and St. Peter’s stores will be relocated to renovated buildings in the near future.
