Fourth arrest in murder case
Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a fourth person in connection with the murder of a former Glace Bay resident.
Shaun Yorke, 45, of Kitchener was found dead inside his Ontario residence on July 8 and according to police, was killed by a gunshot.
A male youth, whose name cannot be revealed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested Monday. He has been charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a restricted firearm and forcible confinement.
Cherri Greeno, spokesperson for the Waterloo Regional Police Service, said four individuals were identified as suspects during the initial investigation.
“As the investigation unfolded we were able to locate the suspects and the arrests were made.”
Greeno said no further arrests are anticipated in conjunction with this case.
Yorke’s sister Brenda Dunlop said Shaun’s death has been difficult on the family but with information previously received they expected that eventually four people would be charged.
“It’s hurtful and sad to think it took four people to go in and literally kill a (disabled) person,” she said.
Yorke lived in Kitchener — where he had worked for a steel company — for more than 15 years. A year before his death, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and family members said he walked with canes.
Dunlop wants to know the intent behind her brother’s murder. Although the family is happy to hear of the arrests, she said closure will not come until there are convictions.
The family is bracing for what they expect will be a long court process.
“We are all getting sweaters made with a picture of Shaun on them,” she said. “Whoever from the family steps in that courtroom will have a sweater on so they (the accused) can all look at Shaun. If there’s any way I can swing it, I will be at court.”
Several family members live in Kitchener including a brother.
Police made three arrests in the Yorke case last week.
Mowafag Saboon, 24, of Kitchener has been charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a restricted firearm, forcible confinement, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession and various firearm charges. Kenneth Morrison, 27, also from Kitchener, has been charged with firstdegree murder, robbery with a restricted firearm and one count of forcible confinement. And a male youth was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a restricted firearm and forcible confinement. His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Greeno said the police service hopes these arrests not only provide some closure to the community and family members in Kitchener but also the family in Nova Scotia.
“It was a very lengthy investigation with our investigators working very diligently on it so we hope this brings some type of closure to the family and community in general.”
