GIOVANNETTI, Donald Joseph

-

Port Morien

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son, husband, father, brother, and uncle, Donald Joseph Giovannetti, of Port Morien on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Glace Bay on May 23, 1958, he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian (Wadden) Giovannetti.

Donald loved to tinker. He was happiest in his garage working on his latest project or helping out a friend or community member who was in a pinch. He took great pride in his auto body repair work and was only satisfied with perfection. Later in life he was a truck driver and had many opportunities to travel throughout Canada and the US while also working in the trucking industry here in Cape Breton. He also loved the outdoors, and from a very young age spent time with his father hunting and fishing. He was so proud when they caught a huge brown trout in Loch Lomond Lake. Donald’s love for the outdoors gave him the opportunity to have many adventures. From trekking through the woods to get to the best fishing spot, driving to River Denys for an ice fishing excursion or raising and running hound dogs for rabbit hunting, Donald enjoyed being in the outdoors.

You could always find Donald spending time at the wharf. Although he did spend much of his free time there, he also could be found chatting around the community after his daily trip to Tim Horton’s. Donald was a hard worker but enjoyed family time with his girls. He was a loving husband and father and he will live in our hearts forever.

Donald leaves behind his wife, Heather, and two daughters – Mora Dawn (Kevin Nolan) and Alison (Darren Gallop). He also leaves behind his sisters, Zilla (Ed), Mary (Bob) and Charlene (Darrell) and their families; fatherin-law; Vernon MacDonald, sister-in-law Nancy (Blair) and brothers-in-law; Blair (Leslie) and John, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; Charles and Lillian, motherin-law; Mora and sister-in-law; Carol.

The family will receive guests at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral celebrations will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Port Morien at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 with Father Norman MacPhee presiding. For those who wish to make memorial donations in Donald’s memory, please consider the ALS Society of New Brunswick & Nova Scotia or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. Condolences to the Giovannetti family are available at currysfuneralhome.com.
