■ Music teachers honoured
The Nova Scotia Music Educators’ Association annually recognizes two music educators. In the top left photo, Ken Howatson, left, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award for the many successes he has had teaching music and for the many student lives he has impacted. He is shown receiving the award from Keli Brewer, president of the Nova Scotia Music Educators Association. In the November 7 edition of the Cape Breton Post, Brewer was incorrectly identified as Cathy MacNeil. In the second photo on the right, Lesley Ann Andrews, arts education consultant, is shown on the left and Cathy MacNeil, centre, is shown being awarded the Musica Viva award, acknowledging the significant impact and influence made in the field of music education in Nova Scotia, from Brewer, right. MacNeil and Howatson are from the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education. Howatson is the band teacher at Malcolm Munroe Middle School and MacNeil recently retired from the P-12 co-ordinator position, having previously been the arts education consultant and music teacher.
