HYDE, Robert Ernest

-

Born February 6, 1939, Robert Hyde of Sydney River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by family. Bobby remained a fighter, always optimistic and maintained his unique sense of humor during his lengthy battle with cancer.

Bobby worked in the automotive trade all his life. In 1976, he and his brother, Tom opened Hyde Brothers Auto Repair on the Prime Brook Highway, which they operated for many years. In retirement, they could always be found occupying their favorite seat at their favorite Tim Hortons.

He was born in Sydney, the son of the late Robert Edward and Annie Gertrude (Brophy) Hyde.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Marie; son, Glenn (Tara), Port Hope, Ont.; grandchildren, Nicholas (Dawn) and Charlene; brother, Tom (Margaret); sister, Lynda (Joe) MacInnis; niece, Roberta; nephew, Gordon (Audrey) and their children, Rob, Breagh and Mike.

We, his family, would like to express our appreciation for the expertise and guidance we received from the dedicated team in the Palliative Care Unit, the VON, Cancer Care Centre staff, Linda Murphy and Dr. John Archibald during Bobby’s illness.

Cremation has taken place and at his request, there will be no visitation or service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, Cape Breton Cancer Centre, the VON or a charity of your choice.

Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www. sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
