Christmas to go

Drive-thru treatment given to Christmas story

-

In these days of drive-through restaurants, banks and coffee shops, L’Arche Cape Breton has taken it one step further with a drive-through version of the Christmas story.

It’s called “Drive Through Bethlehem” and it will be featured at the L’Arche site on Saturday, December 8, from 6-8 p.m.

Those who attend will be able to experience the story of Jesus Christ’s birth in an interactive way by driving around the L’Arche property, watching the story unfold from inside your vehicle.

Shepherds will guide the vehicles through the village where they will meet the inn keeper, merchants, angels, Roman soldiers, the three kings, villagers and Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus. After completing the drive, you will be directed to the Gathering Place where you will register for the census and be treated to live music, tea, refreshments and meet those who live and work at L’Arche.

L’Arche Cape Breton is part of an international federation of communities for men and women with intellectual disabilities and those who choose to share life with them. For more than 35 years, L’Arche Cape Breton has served and supported people with intellectual disabilities. L’Arche Cape Breton focuses on what people can do, not on what they can’t.

Currently, L’Arche Cape Breton operates six homes where 25 people with intellectual disabilities live, with assistants. They also operate seven programs that offer meaningful ways for members to spend their days, a chapel, a house of welcome and acres of land. Assistants from all over the world come to live and work at L’Arche Cape Breton.
