Festive times in Dominion

-

Dominion residents will be celebrating the festive season this weekend with two popular annual events taking place.

The seasonal fun begins with Christmas In The Park at Miners’ Memorial Park on Friday, November 30 at 6 p.m. and continues with the annual Christmas parade that takes place on Sunday, December 2 starting at 4:15 p.m.

According to Eugene McMahon, Christmas in the Park has been taking place for more than 30 years and always attracts a good crowd.

“We get about a hundred people or more,” says McMahon. “There’s always treats for the kids and there could be a surprise visitor from the North Pole.”

In the past, Eddie Parris and The Inspirational Singers have appeared at the event but Parris passed away earlier this year. McMahon says the popular singer will be missed but they will pay tribute to his memory.

This year’s event will also include children caroling, the blessing of the crib and the ever-popular treelighting event. Afterwards, everyone can head to the fire hall for more Christmas songs, hot chocolate and treats.

“It kicks off the season in style,” says McMahon who, along with his wife Judy McMahon, has organize the event since the beginning.

The weekend culminates with the annual Santa Claus Parade moving through the community on December 2, starting at 4:15 p.m.
