A 70-year-old Cape Breton man who, by court order, has been prohibited for life from attending areas where children under 18 are likely to gather has pleaded guilty to violating the order.

David Carter Roger Archibald, formerly of Ingonish Beach, was sentenced in 2011 to complete a three-year federal sentence after being charged in connection with one of the largest seizures of child pornography in Nova Scotia.

He was initially facing more than 250 child porn charges but pleaded guilty to 36 counts — 21 counts of making child porn, 14 counts of distributing child porn and a single count of possession of child porn.

The charges are dated between 2008 and 2010.

Included in the sentence was the prohibition of staying away from places where children under 18 are likely to gather.

During a provincial court appearance Tuesday, Archibald pleaded guilty to violating the order by living in a campground in Georges River between May and September.

Sentencing is now set for Feb. 20.

As part of his sentence in 2011, Archibald was also ordered to be a registered sex offender for the next 20 years and was to submit a DNA sample to the national registry.

He was charged after a 20month RCMP investigation into child pornography.
