Robert “Bob” Bliss Manship, 88, of Sydney, NS passed away peacefully on Tuesday night, February 5, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New Glasgow on August 12, 1930, he was the son of Charles Albert and Doris Lillian (McKennie) Manship.

Robert grew up in Antigonish and after completing high school and a year at St. F.X. University he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force for a time but his passion for radio led him to a career in broadcasti­ng. He worked at many radio stations including CJFX in Antigonish and CBC, CJCB and CHER in Sydney.

Robert’s passion for electronic­s was prevalent throughout his life. He was a ham radio operator and had several life-long buddies who shared his interest.

His deep appreciati­on of music, art, language, travel and all things humorous resulted in his developing a unique personalit­y. Children and pets especially enjoyed his affection.

He will be sadly missed by his former wife, Dorothy; children, Norma (Stephen), Nancy (Floyd), Brian (Kelly), Susan (Gerald) and James; grandchild­ren, Brian (Michelle), Brandon (Cheryl), and Maria Talbot, Karen (William), Gordon and Alice (Doug) Mills, Jessica (Mohit) Coiffi, John (Robyn) and Allison (Andrew) Manship and greatgrand­son, Isaac Meister.

He was predecease­d by his parents, Charlie and Doris Manship; also, by his second wife, Mary (MacNeil) of Sydney.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 8 at 2 p.m. in the great room at Kenwood Hall at Harboursto­ne Enhanced Care.

A special thank you goes out to the wonderful staff at Harboursto­ne, the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and also to T.W. Curry Funeral Home for their kind support during this time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
