Tickets on sale Monday for Theatre Baddeck’s fifth season.

BADDECK — Tickets will be going on sale Monday for Theatre Baddeck’s fifth season which organizers expect will be their best yet.

In 2018, Theatre Baddeck increased its revenue by 121 per cent and overall attendance was up by 71 per cent. They also rose to No. 1 on Things to Do in Baddeck on TripAdvisor.

“Our 2018 season was another recordbreaker, so we’re feeling very uplifted going into this milestone season,” said Hannah Ziss. co-artistic producer of the season with Christy MacRae-Ziss.

“We continue to get lots of online reviews saying that we were a summer highlight — both from tourists and locals — so that is very, very gratifying. We couldn’t be more excited about our fifth season of professional theatre on Cape Breton Island.”

The shows include “He’d Be Your Mother’s Father’s Cousin,” “The Shoplifters” in repertory with “He’d Be” and “Sexy Laundry.” Theatre Baddeck’s fifth season will run from July 5-Oct. 5 at 24 Queen St., Baddeck.

Theatre Baddeck’s season will also feature a surprise fourth event, says Ziss, to be announced later this winter.

“Our audience is growing every year — we definitely have room for a fourth event,” said Ziss. “Stay tuned.”

“He’d Be Your Mother’s Father’s Cousin” by Mary-Colin Chisholm will run July 5-Aug. 15. It’s a comedy about a year in the life of a Cape Breton family.

“The Shoplifters” by Morris Panych will run from July 11Aug. 18 in repertory with “He’d Be.” Theatre Baddeck’s production will be its Atlantic Canadian premiere. The play follows Alma, a career shoplifter at the local co-op, and her hapless accomplice Phyllis.

“Sexy Laundry” by Michele Riml will run from Sept. 20-Oct. 5. This romantic comedy follows Alice and Henry who, armed with a copy of “Sex for Dummies,” check themselves into a trendy seaside hotel with a mission: to jump-start their 25-year marriage. It’s novt going well.
