PHILANTHROPY HALL OF FAME HONOURS COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

-

This past week, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) proudly partnered with the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce to recognize and honour this year’s Cape Breton Business and Philanthropy Hall of Fame inductees.

As fundraising professionals, we have the privilege of witnessing first-hand, the profound impact philanthropy has on our island.

Sitting in a crowd of influential Cape Bretoners, watching everyone rise to their feet and applaud the efforts of local philanthropists gave me goosebumps. As the chair of the local AFP chapter, nothing gives me more pleasure than to see the spirit of giving be recognized and appreciated by so many.

Established in 2015 and now representing members from all across Cape Breton, our local AFP chapter is hard at work promoting philanthropy and providing education, training and sharing best practices for those in the fundraising profession here in Cape Breton. We first partnered with the Chamber in 2016 creating the Philanthropy Hall of Fame as a way to recognize those who have shown great altruism and leadership establishing a philanthropic legacy in Cape Breton.

Since then, we have inducted four esteemed members, including: Joe Shannon, Father Albert Maroun, Lou Maroun and Marty Chernin. On Wednesday we had the distinct pleasure of honouring John and the late Jeanne Eyking as the 2019 inductees into the Philanthropy Hall of Fame. Their commitment to our community and for the legacy they have created will inspire generations to come.

We’d like to congratulate all of the inductees thank the Chamber, the organizing committee and sponsors for giving us all this opportunity to recognize and celebrate leaders in our community.
