It is with broken hearts that we the family of John “Archie” MacDonald announce that he passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born in New Waterford, February 26, 1926, to Ranald and Theresa (MacPherson) MacDonald. In his early years, dad was a mechanic and bus driver for the Musial Bus Company. He was a lighthouse keeper in the 60’s at the Low Point Lighthouse and then retired due to health issues. Dad did not leave the house very often but loved having company stop by for a visit, especially the grand and greatgrand­children who were his pride and joy. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator (VE1AT) for most of his life. In the era of picture tubes, transforme­rs, and large tv’s and radios, dad was always fixing them. He loved tinkering with anything mechanical or electrical. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bertha (Musial); sons, Ernie (Verna), Paul (Cathy deceased), Archie (Linda), Greg (Mary), Perry (Vicki); daughters, Isabell (Tommy) Attwood and Edwenna (Travis) Campbell. He is also survived by 13 grandchild­ren, 17 great- grandchild­ren and a sister, Peggy Beaton (Truro). He was predecease­d by a son and daughter in infancy; brothers Buddy, Ernie, Ronald, Charles (Sharkey); sisters, Catherine (Taddy), Theresa (Tessie), Doreen, and Gertie and daughterin-law Cathy. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 18 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 19 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiatin­g followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent street, all are welcome.
