Redmen, Dragons, Saints post high school hockey wins Wednesday

SYDNEY — A busy night of high school hockey action saw the Riverview Redmen, Dalbrae Dragons and Strait Area Education Centre Saints pick up wins in their respective leagues on Wednesday.

In the Cape Breton High School Hockey League, the Redmen downed the Sydney Academy Wildcats 10-2 at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.

Kendall MacQueen, Bryce MacKenzie and Chase Sampson each found the back of the net twice, while Nick Farrell, Curtis Novak, Nathaniel

Fuller and AJ Ley added single markers for the Redmen. Graham Basque and Dante Basque responded with goals for the Wildcats. Michael MacMullen made 18 saves for Riverview. Daniel MacGilliva­ry turned aside 24 of 34 shots for Sydney Academy.

In the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League, the Dalbrae Dragons blanaked the Eskasoni Warriors 8-0 at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni. Matthew Ellis had a hat trick, firing home three goals for the Dragons, while Griffin Spears, Matt MacLean, Jayden Muise, Angus MacDonald and Ben Scott also recorded goals.

Boyd MacIntyre posted the win between the pipes. Emerson Marshall was tagged with the loss. Shots on goal were not provided.

In other Cape Breton West High School Hockey action, the Strait Area Education Recreation Centre Saints beat the Richmond Hurricanes 6-1 at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

Harrison MacFadyen scored three times, while Brady MacNeil and Andrew MacNeil chipped in with single markers for the Port Hawkesbury-based Saints.

Trent Diggdon had the lone goal for the Hurricanes. Goaltendin­g informatio­n was not provided.
