MACINTYRE, Gertrude “Gertie” Margaret Sydney

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother, Gertrude “Gertie” Margaret Macintyre on April 28, 2020, at the Northside General Hospital. Gertie passed away peacefully after a brief illness. She was the last surviving member of her family. Mom was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Mom opened her heart and home to family and friends over the years and will be sorely missed. She enjoyed life, family members and many friends and she was always there to brighten their lives. Strong in faith, she was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. Whether it be baseball or hockey, Mom was an avid sports fan who never missed watching her favourite teams. She enjoyed listening to or watching Cape Breton Eagles hockey and delighted in meeting the players that Dennis and Jean billeted. Mom was a member of the CN Pensioners Bowling League, Sydney. She also enjoyed her weekly card games with her card club members. Gertie took great pleasure in her gardens when she lived at her home on Kenwood Drive, Sydney River. Born December 12, 1920, in Sydney, Gertie was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Macneil) Parago. Gertie married Leo Macintyre and together they worked hard and raised three children on Elmbank Avenue in Sydney. Mom will be missed by her sons, Allan (Addie), Dennis, (Jean); grandchildren, Michael, Mellissa, Kelly and Allison; great-grandson, Samuel; sisters-in-law, Casey Parago and Florence Parago; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and cherished. Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Leo Macintyre; her daughter, Jeanne; sisters, Florence O’toole, Helen Hudson, Betty Baker, Kissie Macneil, and Mae Devoe; and brothers, Bernie Parago, Don “Sammy” Parago, and Leo “Deacon” Parago. We feel so blessed that our Mother was in the loving care of the wonderful staff on 4 East at the Northside General Hospital for the past 3 months. The staff provided great support to Mom and our family during this difficult time of Covid-19, THANK YOU. The family would also like to thank the staff at Macgillvary Guest Home for their support and compassion while she was a resident of the Enriched Housing Apartments. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at a later date when social restrictions from Covid-19 are no longer in place. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com.
