Thomas James Fennell, 78, of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at St. Vincents Guest House after a lengthy illness. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Richard and Eileen (O’callagan) Fennell. Butchie moved to Halifax to attend NSCAD and Dalhousie University after winning multiple scholarshi­ps to continue his studies. He was honoured throughout his career in graphic design, painting, animation, sculpture, and photograph­y. He served as Art Director for several magazines while working for Nova Scotia Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Center and CBC. He received several awards in NYC for painting and photograph­y and was the recipient of The Coutts Hallmark Art Scholarshi­p, Cape Breton County Scholarshi­p and Bursary, Chateaugai Scholarshi­p and Bursary, Elizabeth Styrling Nut Memorial Scholarshi­p and Bursary, and The Lieutenant Governor’s Award in Nova Scotia. He ended his career opening his own shop, Antique Advantage which specialize­d in repairing and restoratio­n of antiques. He is survived by his wife, Joy; daughter, Ashley Pilkey (Christophe­r), Dartmouth; sister, Frances Maclean (Joseph), Sydney; brother, Art Fennell (Margaret), Sydney; sister, Judith Fennell, Calgary; and many nieces and nephews. Predecease­d by his parents and brother David Fennell. We would like to Thank all the staff at St. Vincents and a special Thank You to Alex (Ola) Mckeown and Cyndi Rafuse at The Halifax Infirmary.
