BARRINGTON, Sheila Alma (Jardine)

Sheila Alma (Jardine) Barrington, from Ross Ferry, NS, passed away quietly on the evening of May 1, 2020 at the age of 70 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow after a decades long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was attended by her husband Bruce, daughter Dawn, and her other daughters were present via video. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bruce; daughters, Dawn (Dan Hodgson), Paula, Heather (Mark Wallin) and Cindy (Devon Lewis); seven grandchildren, Hanna, Coady, Claire, Sarah, Angelina, Cole and Jean; four siblings, Robert Jardine (Judy), Barbara North (Rob), Celia Gillis (Vince) and Peter Jardine (Brenda); many nieces and nephews who were very special to her. She was predeceased by her mother, Gertrude (Geddes) Hart; her father, Lawrence Jardine, and by her mother-in-law, Theresa (LeBlanc) Barrington. Sheila will also be remembered by a large community of family and friends. Sheila was born January 21, 1950 at Sydney City hospital and grew up in the Ashby area of Sydney. She met her husband, Bruce Barrington, at the bowling alley in the basement of Holy Redeemer Church. After marrying on April 11, 1970, they lived in Sydney until they moved to Ross Ferry, on Boulardarie Island in 1976 where they raised their four daughters. She was a highly respected leader in the 4H program for more than 25 years in Boulardarie. She and Bruce moved to Pictou County in 2018 to be closer to grandchildren. Sheila was an extraordinary life partner to her husband, a wonderful mother and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She radiated a gentle kindness and those who knew her will also remember her quick wit and sense of humor. She had considerable personal talents which included a gift for public speaking. Sheila was a champion in the face of adversity and her story is one of strength and ability. The family would like to thank Doctor Steven MacDougall for caring for Sheila in Cape Breton for many years and Doctor Simran Ohson from the Aberdeen Hospital for his tireless, compassionate and attentive care, as well as the fourth floor and palliative care nurses and staff who cared for her so tenderly over the last three months. Bruce Barrington would also like to say a special note of thanks to the Home Support in Victoria County and the VON in Pictou County. A family committal service will be held at a later date in the Stella Maris Parish Cemetery, Pictou, NS. Future details regarding a celebration of life will be shared at a later date.
