CROWDIS, Ivan MacPherson Sydney, Nova Scotia

It is with very heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, and grandfather on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at The Cove Guest Home. Born on Mar 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Edward and Christine (MacPherson) Crowdis. Ivan will be remembered for his love of his wife and children, his upstanding character, love of animals, nature and Cape Breton. As a young man, he attended Sydney Academy and St.F.X. University’s extension classes in Sydney before taking over Crowdis Auto Service from his father. “Whistle while you work” was his credo. Ivan enjoyed many years working closely with his son Kenneth at the garage and cherished recounting Cape Breton travels and stories with his friends and clients. He was very proud of the house he and Babe built on Kimberly Drive, where the door was always open to friends and neighbors ready to enjoy a good game of cribbage. An avid sports fan, Ivan could often be found cheering on the boys at their hockey games or enjoying chinese food while watching a playoff game at home with the family. As the boys grew older, he was never too busy to give advice or role up his sleeves to help out with family ‘construction projects’. A lover of the outdoors; together, he and Babe explored every inch of Cape Breton, hunting, fishing and camping. Ivan is survived by his sons, Todd (Margaret) Sydney River and William (Lynette); granddaughter, Maclean, Halifax; daughter-in-law, Sylvia; granddaughter, Suzanne (Paul); greatgrandson, Ephraim, Ottawa. Ivan was predeceased by wife, Rubena ‘Babe’ (Thorne); sons, Kenneth, Allan; infant daughter, Jennifer Lynn; brother, Lloyd, and sister, Norma. As per Ivan’s wishes, there will be no Service. The family would like to express special thanks to the caregivers of The Cove Guest Home. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of having him in their lives.
