GREEN, Ivan Russell Sydney
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father Ivan Russell Green, 84, of Sydney River on May 5, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Ivan was predeceased by the love of his life, Lois. They were married in 1959 and had a beautiful life together. He was also predeceased by his parents, Allison and Mae Green as well as his 5 siblings: William Green, Frank (Patsy) Green, Beverly (Kelly) Palmer, George Green, and Sharon (Zane) Lee. He will be deeply missed by his children; Carla Sandalis, Lorne Green and Lisa (Joseph) Gale and by his adoring grandchildren; Bryan and Nicole Sandalis and Lauren and Erin Gale; sisters-in-law; Shirley and Patricia Green, along with many nieces and nephews. Ivan will be remembered as a compassionate husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was “Papa “not only to his grandchildren but to the neighborhood children who loved and looked up to him as they grew up. He was always extremely willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was a kind, empathetic, generous and humble man with a sense of humor like no other. Ivan and Lois loved spending their summers in Red Islands at “The Bungalow” where all friends were greeted with warm hospitality. Material possessions were of little value to Ivan. He was wealthy in love, friendships and laughter. He truly enjoyed making people laugh with his endless jokes. An outdoorsman at heart, Ivan loved to load up his boat and go fishing whenever he could. “If others wonder why “I’m missin’, just tell ‘em I’m gone fishin”. An avid athlete, Ivan played hockey, basketball, baseball and ran track in his youth. Ivan was a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be determined and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ivan’s name can be made to the Cape Breton Transition House or the Whitney Pier Youth Club. “Those we hold close never leave us but live on in the kindness they’ve shared and the love they brought into our lives. Your family and friends will always hold you lovingly forever in their memories.” Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com or emailed to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
