Keeping patients healthy outside the hospital
Recognizing community health care teams through the COVID-19 pandemic
While hospitals across Atlantic Canada are devoting special units to caring for patients with COVID-19, it’s also been equally important to keep non-urgent cases out of the hospital.
Erik Sande, president of Medavie Health Services, says this is critical to slowing the spread of the virus and devoting as many resources as possible to those most in need, here in Atlantic Canada and elsewhere.
Medavie Health Services is a healthcare delivery company that provides ground and air ambulance services, medical communications, clinical training and community health solutions. Their teams of multi-disciplinary health care professionals focus on providing patients with the highest level of care in their homes and communities.
“We’ve always believed in helping to bring care into our communities where people need it most — from nurses and paramedics to medical 911, pilots and our telecommunications staff,” says Sande. “It’s a vision that we believe reduces strains on resources and improves overall health outcomes.”
The invaluable role of nurses and paramedics working in the community setting during this particular time of unrest cannot be understated. According to Sande, these frontline health care workers have been demonstrating “extraordinary efforts” as they focus on providing patient-centered care.
To mark National Nursing Week, Medavie, like many organizations, is pausing to acknowledge the leadership role of all health care professionals through the
COVID-19 pandemic. From clinical support nurses to paramedics, these frontline care teams have made significant improvements in our health care system — through long-term care facilities, emergency departments, telehealth services, community paramedicine and more.
“Our frontline teams, including nurses, are the cornerstone of our efforts to improve the wellbeing of Canadians,” says Sande. “We are fortunate to have such talented professionals here in Atlantic Canada and across the country, working tirelessly through the pandemic. We thank you for your dedication and selflessness this week — and every single day.”
