SUTHERLAND, John William ‘Twilight’

The death of John William ‘Twilight’ Sutherland of St. Peter’s occurred at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, on May 9, 2020. Born on August 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Ambrose and Rose (Sampson) Sutherland. John is survived by his partner of 25 years, Trudy MacMillan; twin daughters, Barbara Ann and Brenda Lee; brothers, Michael (Linda), Sydney, Victor, Nine Mile River, Patrick (Sharon), St. Peter’s; sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Morrison, Jean (Jackie) Pottie, Lower L’Ardoise and Mary, St. Peter’s. He was predecease­d by his brother, Frank. In his younger days, John was employed with Mac Bain Coal Mines in Trenton and later with Office Specialty Equipment in Halifax until his retirement to St. Peter’s in 1996. John enjoyed attending the square dances at the United Church Hall in St. Peter’s. In addition, he was an avid sports fan, hunter and recreation­al fisherman. He will be truly missed by his family and friends, especially his close friend, Albert Martin. Thank you to Dr. Clarke and staff at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, as well as Dr. Pluta and staff of Strait Richmond Hospital who provided such good care in his final days. Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury. Due to the COVID pandemic, burial will take place at a later date.
