CLARKE, David Leo Whitney Pier
With broken hearts we, the family of David Leo Clarke, regretfully announce his sudden and peaceful passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 17, 2020. David was born in Sydney, NS on November 26, 1957. He was the son of the late Leo and Marcella (Carey) Clarke. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish. David will be remembered for being a man of few words who showed unwavering kindness to those he loved. David was a proud ironworker from 1974 until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 752. His career allowed him to travel, from Newfoundland to western Canada and many parts in between. He is survived by his cherished daughters, Courtney (Matt) Debison, Amanda (Brandon) and Kendal (Josh), who brought him much joy every day. David was also a grandfather to his three handsome grandsons, Ethan, Hayden and Emmett. Also deeply mourning David’s passing are his loving sisters, Pauline (Eddie) Campbell and Madonna. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, Edward, Kevin, Steven, Lee-Anne and Laurena, who thought of David as her older brother, along with numerous cousins and friends. David’s best friend was Nova, his beautiful canine companion. In the hours before David’s passing, he was shown kindness by many healthcare workers. To the EHS team, nurses, and doctors who treated him with the utmost care, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. During the times of Covid-19 restrictions, you offered us so much support and compassion. We will never forget these heartfelt gestures. We ask that memorial donations in David’s name be made to the SPCA or Holy Redeemer Building Fund. A private family service will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
