BADDECK — A River Denys man is facing driving offences after allegedly failing to stop for police on two occasions.

Andrew Grant Macphail was charged May 26 with dangerous driving, evading police and driving while suspended. He has been released on conditions and is to appear in provincial court in Wagmatcook on Sept. 9.

Baddeck RCMP report that on May 24, an officer observed a red Volkswagen Jetta being driven east bound on Highway 105 in Baddeck. The vehicle was being driven on the shoulder of the highway, then sharply swerved and partially crossed the centre line.

The officer activated his emergency equipment but the driver did not pull over and continued driving in a dangerous manner. The officer did not pursue the vehicle but forwarded vehicle information to other officers patrolling the area.

A second officer did locate the Jetta being driven west bound on Highway 105 in a dangerous manner. The officer activated the emergency equipment and again the driver refused to stop. The officer did not pursue the Jetta.

At 8:15 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle, a red sedan, was driving at a high rate of speed through a 60 km/h zone in Wagmatcook. This vehicle was not located but the complainant's description of the vehicle and driver, were similar to the information obtained by the officers pursuing the Jetta.

The driver was later identified as Macphail and he was arrested and charged May 26.
