MACKINNON, Fabe Glace Bay

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Neil Fabian Mackinnon, age 81 on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Fabe was born in Grand Mira South, the eldest of 14 children, and the son of the late Neil and Marion (Lahey) Mackinnon. Fabe worked for 39 years as a supervisor at Nova Scotia Power. After retirement, he worked as the proud owner of Mackinnon’s Catering and took great pride in providing a hot meal, making sure everyone was well fed. He was also an active member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay and took on many roles within the church over the years. Poppy was most proud of his grandson Josh and would brag about him to everyone he met. Dad’s greatest joy was spending his days with mom making her happy, after a short time apart, they are together again. Fabe is survived by his sons, Michael, Glace Bay, Danny (Lorraine), Sydney and grandson, Josh. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Alphonsus, Russell Vincent, Joseph Campbell and Angus Stanislaus; sisters, Huyhena Elizabeth Deveaux, Alena Elizabeth Turnbull, Florence Elizabeth Roper and Anne Marion Miller. Fabe was predecease­d by his wife, Helen (Cox) Mackinnon; his son, Kevin (Carol Lee); brothers, Joseph Patrick, Allan Cyprian, John Bryden; sisters, Catherine Pauline Mackinnon and Edna Joan Kennedy. There will be no public visitation. A private family church service will take place with interment in the parish cemetery, Glace Bay.
