Catherine Mae ‘Katie’ Eddy, 100, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020 at the MacGillivr­ay Guest Home in Sydney. She was born on June 23, 1919 in Sydney, the daughter of Norman and Minnie MacDougall of Big Ridge, Cape Breton. She lived in Big Ridge during her early years before moving to Sydney, where she resided most of her life. Katie enjoyed a long, happy, and healthy life. She loved a good game of cards, playing bingo, a good joke, and the odd afternoon at the casino. She regularly attended church most of her life and lived independen­tly well into her 90’s. Katie is survived by her son, Calvin (Lynda) Eddy, Sydney; granddaugh­ter, Leah (Trent) Hunter, Toronto, Ontario; grandson, Matthew (Lesley) Eddy, Yorkton, Saskatchew­an; great-grandsons, Ashley and Blake; special grandniece, Debbie Monaghan; special grandnephe­w, Gerald MacDougall, both of Sydney; sistersin-law, Clare MacDougall, Pictou, and Josephine Eddy, Halifax; and her very special niece, Mary Youden, who provided many years of companions­hip and comfort. Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, Cecil; sister, Floena (Mrs. Julius Nodge); and brothers, Allen, Frank, Donald, and Danny. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The family would like to thank the staff of the MacGillivr­ay Guest Home for the care and attention given to her during her stay in the home. Cremation has taken place at her request. Funeral arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sydney. Interment is scheduled for a later date. Donations in Katie’s memory may be made to the MacGillivr­ay Guest Home, Sydney.
