RUDDERHAM, Emerson Dixon

-

July 1, 1929 - June 10, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Emerson Rudderham at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Miners Hall on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. Emerson was born and raised in Whitney Pier (Sydney, NS), the son of the late JW and Alexanderia Rudderham. Emerson was a driven man who went to work at an early age, working for the family business practicing plumbing and heating. He would then move on to join the RCMP, where he enjoyed his work with the Mounties, telling great stories for years to come. Returning back to what Emerson enjoyed the most, he started his own business, ED Rudderham Plumbing and Heating. He built a beautiful house on his farmland in Point Edward for himself and his loving wife, Aileen. They enjoyed their time together there until Aileen passed in 2006. Some favourite family memories were made on this farm, which we will hold near and dear to our hearts. In his spare time, Emerson could be found working on the farm or at the race track, where his horses would compete in Harness Racing. He had a great love for all animals, especially dogs and horses. He also enjoyed watching the Cape Breton Eagles, which he attended in person until his health prevented him from doing so. In his younger years, Emerson was a member of the Lions Club. Emerson is survived by his sons, whom he referred to as “his boys”, Wayne (Lesley), Summerside, Brent (Fay), Calgary, Drew (Erika), Kentville, Dean (Kathy), Truro, Scott (Lisa), Saskatoon and Willard (Glenda), Baddeck; stepdaughter, Kelley MacDonald; and the mother of his boys, Margaret Rudderham. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved their “Poppy”. Emerson was raised in a family of eight children and is survived by his sisters, Selma and Cordella, and brothers, Nelson and Wilson. He was predeceased by brothers, Lewis, Frank and Ross. We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Miners Hall for the loving care they provided to Emerson and the family these past couple of years. At this time there will be no service due to COVID-19. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If anyone wishes to make a donation in Emerson’s memory, please donate to the SPCA or Aileen’s Pets Without Vets. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel @ns.sympatico.ca.
