Dale Allison Hicks passed away at home on Monday, June 8, 2020. Born in Wingham, Ont., he was a son of Jack and Rena (Gunning) Hicks. Dale is survived by his loving family, his wife, Caroline Kelly; daughters, Meghanne (Mike Burtnyk), Katelyn, Rebecca; siblings, Clinton (Donna), Jane Anne (Mike), Wade (Karen), Tim (Barb); as well as several nieces and nephews. Dale graduated from the Coast Guard College as a Marine Engineer in 1984. He then worked in the Laurentien area for 9 years. He obtained his Chief Engineering ticket at 28 years of age, making him the youngest Chief in Canada at the time, which speaks to his dedication and work ethic. After moving back to his hometown of St. Peter’s, he was employed by several companies around the world. His most recent position was Chief Engineer with Horizon Maritime working alongside Captain Gill Poirier, and his amazing engine room crew. Dale was a funloving charismatic husband, father and friend and lived life to its fullest. He had a quick wit, infectious laughter and absolutely loved his family, friends, a good joke, being on the water, and various outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, sailing and landscaping. In his younger years, he loved water skiing with his brothers and lifelong friends the MacNeil twins, Russel and Michael. His kind and compassionate spirit and unique dance moves will be forever missed. He was truly the life of the party. The family will gather to celebrate his life. The family would sincerely like to thank the community and friends for their generous gifts of food, time and much welcome support throughout Dale’s illness. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Pluta and his office staff for all they contributed to Dale’s care. Also thank you to the CBRH ER staff, unit 4B and the Cancer Centre.
