POIRIER, Rosemary New Waterford

-

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Rosemary Poirier, on June 15, 2020 at Halifax Infirmary with her loving family by her side after a brief illness. Born in New Waterford on August 15, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Danny and Anna Mae (MacNeil) Murphy. ‘Ma’ was a hairdresser her entire life. She spent 43 years working at Brine’s Hair Salon where she forged many great friendships. She was a giver at heart who always wanted to help out and could never say no. For over 30 years she delighted in her role as a member of the hospitality committee of the Coal Bowl Classic Basketball Tournament where she enjoyed meeting the coaches and officials from across the country and renewing friendships each year. She was also the current president of the N.W. Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary where, for the last 10 years, she has helped organize and prepare food for funeral receptions in the community. Earlier in her life she was also a charter member of the New Waterford Kinette Club where her service to community began. Trips to Cheticamp were the highlight of her summers where she enjoyed listening to live fiddle music with family and seeing familiar faces. Ma loved life, loved people, and loved her family above all. Through her eyes she was only ever able to see the good in everyone. Anyone she met was her new friend and she greeted everyone with the same warmth and smile. She was happiest when her house was full entertaining family and friends, which was often. But more than anything she loved her three boys. And they loved her. Rosemary will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Daniel; sons, Darryl (Nancy), David (Jaime), Dougie (Jessie); her precious grandchildren that she adored, Baillie, Connor and Tessa Rose, as well as being Nanny to Dillon, Maya and Sydney; sisters, Donna (Jake) Morrison, Maureen (Albert) MacDougall, Allana (Squiber) MacNeil; brother, Jack (Robin) Murphy; mother-in-law, Liz Poirier; in-laws, Carolyn (Ernest) Boudreau, Michelle (Gary) Bates, as well as her loving nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Vern Murphy; father-in-law, Tass Poirier, and brother and sisterin-law, Marshall and Betty Poirier. Cremation and funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Due to COVID-19 restrictions services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the K.O.C. Ladies Auxilliary, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences can be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
