SCOTT, Walter William ‘Scottie’ Sydney Mines

-

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Walter William Scott (known to many as Scottie) at the age of 78. Scottie died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Born and raised in Sydney Mines, Scottie was the oldest son of the late Walter & Mary Ann (Russell) Scott. Scottie was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus (Santa Maria Council 2024) 3rd degree Knight. He was also a member of the Holy Family Parish Hall Committee. He loved being the “runner” getting whatever they needed for any events that were being held at the hall. He will also be sadly missed by his “runners” and close friends, Rose, Donna & Bonnie. He drove them crazy but he loved them all. Scottie is sadly missed and survived by his daughter, Lurena (Glenn), Medicine Hat, Alberta; son, Steven (Charlene), Redcliff, Alberta; grandchildren Riley, Bretonnie, Brittany & Madison. He is also survived by his brothers, David (Peggy), Sydney Mines & Ronnie, London, Ontario. Scottie will also be sadly missed by his best friends, Cyril & Lorraine Aker. Cyril and Scottie were best friends for 71 years. He often told me “you don’t hear of friendships like that anymore... a rarity they are”. He always enjoyed his many trips with Cyril for the annual “bringin’ her around” on Donnie Aker’s boat from Sydney Harbour up through the Great Bras d’or channel to Man-o-war Point...a happy time for him. Besides his parents, Scottie was predeceased by his daughters, Tanya & Marie (in infancy) and sister-in-law, Diane (Ronnie). Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in Memory of Scottie can be made to the AMP Society c/o 60 May Avenue, Sydney Mines, NS B1V 3J1 or by e-transfer to robert.blinkhorn@bellaliant.net. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
