GLACE BAY — Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association will hold its final 50-50 draw for the 2019-20 season later this month in Dominion.

The association will hold the draw on June 28 at the Dominion and District Community Centre. Ticket dropoff times were not confirmed at press time.

The draw, which was originally scheduled for April 5 but was postponed due to COVID-19, will include five $1,000 prizes as well as five $500 and 10 $250 winners.

“We were put on hold like the rest of the world in midMarch, so we weren’t able to have our last couple of draws,” said James Edwards, president of the Glace Bay association.

“We have thousands of tickets out in circulation, both sold and unsold, right now.”

With minor hockey activities cancelled both on and off the ice due to the global pandemic, the Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association was forced to get permission from the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation and Hockey Nova Scotia to have the final draw.

“As things started to ease the last couple of weeks, we were given permission to go ahead and do it,” said Edwards. “Our collectors will be wearing masks and we’ll have hand sanitizer on hand as well for those dropping off tickets.”

Usually, the draw is held upstairs of the arena, but because of social-distancing guidelines, ticket drop off will be held at ice level inside the venue.

“We’re going to spread it out on the ice surface and we’re going to have people going in one door, dropping their tickets off, and going out another door,” said Edwards.

Along with the ticket draw, the association is asking coaches to return all jerseys and equipment currently in circulation on June 28. The association asks that all jerseys are cleaned before being returned.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 also forced the cancellation of the association’s annual awards ceremony. Award and scholarship winners will also be announced June 28.

Edwards said tickets are still available in the community for purchase prior to the draw.
