The 61-year-old accused, who is from Cape North, is also charged with discharging a firearm with intent, careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The charges were filed in connection with an incident June 21 outside a home on Blaze Road in Victoria County.

RCMP reported Monday they were called to the scene after a man showed up at a store in Cape North advising he had been shot in the leg with a shotgun.

The suspect is alleged to have run into the woods behind a home, after the shooting, and emerged some two hours later surrendering to police.

RCMP investigators continued to be on the scene of the incident on Monday and the residents of the home where the shooting occurred were ordered out of the home until investigators completed their work.

Police reported that the complainant told investigators he was shot after arguing with the accused. Both individuals are known to each other. The complainant drove himself to the nearby store to seek help.

The complainant is a father of three and a family member told the Cape Breton Post on Monday that he is doing OK. He is being treated for his injuries at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
