Sydney Academy announces athletic awards

SYDNEY — Sydney Academy honoured its student-athletes by virtually announcing the school's athletic awards via social media this week.

Dante Basque was given the most valuable player and leading scorer award for the school's hockey team. Belle Jacobs was named the top defenceman, Brody Bobbett received the most improved award, Justin Thistle was given the coaches award, and Zach Conn took home the most sportsmanl­ike award.

Brenden Armstrong was given The Chief Award for leadership on and off the ice, and Connor Campbell was selected for the Kellen Surette Award for the love of the game.

In girls varsity soccer, Ava Marks was the top defensive player, while Emily Neville won the coach's award, and Shannon Blois was the rookie of the year.

In boys varsity soccer, Isaac Rhynold won the most valuable player award, Colin McArthur was picked for the coach's award, and Liam Collings was the most improved player.

In girls junior varsity, Kristen Slipp was given the most valuable player, while Brigid Milburn was awarded the rookie of the year. Maggie Campbell was selected for the sportsmans­hip award.

In boys varsity basketball, Adam Callaghan was named the most valuable player, while Niko Kachafanas was the rookie of the year, and Carson Webber was the top defensive player.

In girls varsity basketball, Ainslie Trimm was given the most valuable player honour, while Hannah McGee was chosen as the rookie of the year, and Jocelyn Surette was the recipient of the coach's award.

In boys junior varsity basketball, Adam Chapman was named the most valuable player, while Tyler Oickle was picked for the rookie of the year award. Eric Wall received the coach's award.

As for girls junior varsity basketball, Emily Campbell was named the most valuable player, while Brooklyn Bobbett was selected as the rookie of the year. Alison Marsh was the most improved player.
