MACLEAN, Catherine ‘Chrissy’ Prime Brook

-

Catherine Christine ‘Chrissy’ MacLean, age 88, of 739 Alexandra Street, Prime Brook, passed away at her home on Monday, June 22, 2020. Chrissy was the only child of the late Arthur and Mary (MacSween) MacKinnon of Sandfield, Cape Breton County. As a child, she and her family moved to Sydney to be closer to family relations. Although an only child, ‘Ma’ was proud to call the Keegan children her sisters and brother (Norma, Patsy, Evelyn, Faye, Elaine and Greg) and was close to them all for most of her life. She was also happy to be close to her cousin, Marie and her husband Joe, who called and visited regularly. Her children, Stevie (his partner, Jannessa), David (his partner, Nore), Vincent (his partner, Lan) and Lori (her partner, Joe); and finally her grandson, Ethan; remember her as a smart, classy and feisty woman who had an opinion, but knew when and when not to express it. She was widowed at the age of 46, surviving her husband, Alexander MacLean and learned the hard way to re-invent her life. She put a high value on all her friends, and she had many. She often expressed to her children the love and faith she had for all those who stood by her through the years and did her best to do the same. She found purpose volunteering in her later years at Harbourstone Enhanced Care and the Cove Guest Home and in her free time, was the periodic ringleader of two travelling card clubs that lasted for thirty years. Her family would like all her friends to know that an informal celebration of her life will happen outdoors on a beautiful summer day later this season when the Covid-19 restrictions will allow family out of province to attend. In the meantime, please feel free to drop in for a chat anytime. We would like to express a thank you to all the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who made her feel safe and well- cared for. The family would also like to thank Meals on Wheels for all their help. Please donate whatever you can to such a compassionate and caring service. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
