MACINNIS, Muriel Viola Balls Creek

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving friend, mother and grandmother, Muriel Viola Macinnis, of Balls Creek. Muriel peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. She was born August 19, 1927, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the daughter of George Macinnis and Margaret (Beaton) Macinnis. Muriel graduated from the Sydney Academy High School and Cape Breton Business College, where she taught for many years after she graduated. She spent the remainder of her career teaching business at Riverview High School and as an assistant at Maclennan Junior High School. Muriel was blessed to have found happiness with her soul mate and true love, John A Macinnis. They were united in marriage on November 8, 1952, in Cape Breton. They built their first and only home together shortly after they married and lived a wonderful life under the same roof for 60 years. In addition to their son, Calvin, Muriel often referred to Valerie, Wayne, Wendy and Theresa as her children. Muriel was a truly incredible person. She was loved by all that were fortunate enough to have known her. She was the most thoughtful and generous soul. She never failed to help anyone who was in need. Her door was always open to friends and family and it was impossible to leave her kitchen before eating a meal or a few of her world-famous shortbread cookies. She took immense pleasure in attending and volunteering at many events at the St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek. She had a vast array of hobbies that included: ceramics, crocheting, gardening and baking. But above all things in her life, her greatest and dearest treasures were her family and friends. Muriel will always be remembered for her charming, outgoing personality, her kindness, her easy laugh and vibrant smile. She always had something constructive to say and she could always bring a smile to your face. She made every star around her shine. Muriel will be so missed by all, but especially Calvin and her grandchildren, as well as her ‘spare’ children, Valerie, Wayne, Wendy and Theresa. They depended on her love, friendship and advice and the reminder after each call and visit that they were loved. She is survived by her son, Calvin Macinnis; three grandchildren, Noah, Aidan and Devin; her sister, Helen Bennett; as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John; parents, George and Margaret; brothers, Alexander, William, Harry and George; sisters, Elizabeth and Beatrice, and daughter-in-law, Deanna. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heartfelt forms from too many people to name individually, but including our neighbors, friends and family. Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will be at Calvin Cemetery, Upper Leitches’ Creek. There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends when we are all allowed to gather again–hopefully in the spring of 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
