NEW WATERFORD, N.S. – Renovations will soon take place at Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. locations in New Waterford and Port Hood.

Tenders were issued recently for exterior and interior renovations at the Cape Breton buildings. The New Waterford location will receive exterior work, while the Port Hood business will see interior work.

As part of work in New Waterford, NSLC will be removing and replacing the brick as well as the glass at the front of the Plummer Avenue store.

Work will also be done to repair the roof and new LED exterior lights will be installed.

“We’re doing a refresh of the exterior of the building,” said Beverly Ware, spokesperson for the NSLC.

“We’re also going to be checking the air conditioning units to make sure they’re working correctly and efficiently.”

The building, which is 7,400-square-feet, was constructed in the 1960s. As of 2018, 12 employees were working at the location. The store is expected to remain open during construction.

In recent years, the New Waterford location received interior renovations, which included the installation of a new walk-in cooler along with other renovations.

Meanwhile, the Port Hood location, which will remain open, will receive interior renovations including new flooring in the retail area, new ceilings, and a walk-in cooler for beer and ready to drink products.

“The Port Hood store is what we call a select store and basically we’re refreshing the interior of the store so it meets the same standards as the select stores across the province,” said Ware.

Last year, the Port Hood outlet, located at 8578 Highway 19, received exterior work. The work included the removal of wood siding, soffits, and fascia, and the supply and installation of building wrap, vinyl siding, vented vinyl soffit, and aluminium clad fascia.

The deadline for application for the New Waterford location was Thursday. Meanwhile, the Port Hood deadline is Tuesday.
