BURTE, Mary Isabel Glace Bay, N.S.

-

It is with broken hearts and deepest sorrow that we the family announce the passing of our wonderful mother and Nana, Isabel Burte on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Born November 29, 1931 in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Maisie Morrison Butt. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James F. Burte; beloved granddaughter, Danielle Gillis and grandson, Brandon Plichie. Also, she was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth, Gerald and Eric Butt and sister, Eileen (Al)tanner. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was a proud nurse who made many friends during her long career. She was a member of the Glace Bay Hospital Nursing Alumni Association. Isabel is survived by her loving family and friends. In her day she was an avid bowler and enjoyed cross stitching, a good mystery novel, playing sudoku and learning new vocabulary. In more recent years she was a strong advocate for the rights of residents living in nursing homes. There is so much more we can say about our Mother but we really want her to know how much she was loved by her family. Those who knew her were well aware of her wit, wisdom and wry sense of humour. She will be sadly missed by her children, Vina (Robert) Johnson, Coxheath, Gerri (Tyrone) Plichie, Glace Bay, Eileen (Albert) Vaters, Main A Dieu, Alison (Steve) Gillis, Glace Bay, Charlene (Steve) Nearing, Grand Prairie AB and Jim Burte (Olga) Glace Bay. Nana will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Elaine (Scott), Glenda (Kenzie), Matthew ( Janice), Shane (Erica), Anthony (Katie), Ryan, Michelle (Dylan), Aaron, Jillian (Tim), Justine ( James) and Krystal; greatgrandchildren, Hunter, Maria, Rylen, Colston, Larkin, Xzavier, Scarlett, Ronan, Juliette, Jaxon, and Peyton. As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home; due to Covid restrictions, there will be no public service. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.pattenfuneral.com.
