ROACH, Carrie Glace Bay

-

Our Mom, a gentle lady, loving, warm and kind. On November 26, 2020, our beloved Mom left the family she so dearly loved to be with the Lord in Heaven. Mom was born in Bishop’s Falls, NL on December 2, 1930, the daughter of the late Wesley and Gladys Rendell. She came to Cape Breton at the age of 19, where she met the love of her life, our dad Duncan Roach, and they together raised three children. Our Dad passed away when Mom was just forty-seven years of age. She never remarried. A superb cook, baker, a master in the kitchen she delighted the taste buds of many a patron as a cook at the Miner’s Village Restaurant. She left this employment in 1976 to care for Dad, who was diagnosed with ALS and passed away two years later. Following his death, she worked diligently and received her “Early Childhood Development Diploma,” from NSTC. She found employment into her early seventies as a preschool teacher at the Jewels and Gems Daycare Center, where she developed many warm, enduring relationships with her students and their parents. Mom was a profoundly religious woman, read and studied the bible extensively and was only too willing to discuss it with anyone who chose to listen. She loved to write poetry and songs to express her Christian values and faith. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Pastoral Care Program and volunteered at the local hospitals. Despite some lingering health issues, notably the dreaded Trigeminal Neuralgia, she maintained a fierce will to live in later years, persevering the everyday chronic pain of this debilitating disorder. Three children survive her, sons, Jackie ( Joan), Keith (Catherine); daughter, Cathy (Sandy) Gillard. She leaves behind eight grandchildren who adore her unconditionally, Leslie, Carla, Alyson, Duncan, Melanie, Scott, Alisha, and Lindsay; step granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle as well as twelve great-grandchildren and one, great-great-grandchild. She leaves behind her little dog and number one companion Willow. Too numerous to mention are the nieces, nephews and friends whom she held so dearly and they in return. An adoring family of seven Rendell brothers survive her, Wesley (Avis), Richard ( Joyce), Dexter ( Joan), Hughie (Pauline), Jack (Mary), Keith (Natalie), Blair (Floss); five sisters survive her, Mabel Perry, Emmie Sparkes, Una (Bob) Small, Barbara (Fred) Reid, Evelyn Rendell; sister-in-law, Hazel Rendell and sister-in-law, Margie Roach. She was predeceased by brother, Art and brother-inlaw, Oliver Perry. There will be no visitation. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 2 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 270 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) Attendance is limited to immediate family, aunts, uncles, cousins as well as friends.
