MacDONALD, Irene Mary (Carroll) Sydney

Irene Mary MacDonald passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit on November 29 with her family by her side. Born in Whit -ney Pier on May 22, 1932. She was the daughter of PJ and Elizabeth Carroll (Evans). Mom graduated from St. Martha’s Hospital in 1953, where she went on to work in Maternity and then moved to the Neo Natal Unit at St. Rita’s Hospital for 25 years. She was instrument­al in helping with the start up of the Neo Natal Care Unit at St. Rita’s Hospital. She enjoyed her nursing career and mentoring to her colleagues. She is survived by her children, Peter (Patsy), PJ (Jen) and Jack. She is also survived by ten grandchild­ren, Melissa, Amanda, Jenny, Patrick, Paige, Taylor, Logan, Brittany, Stephen, Chris and two great-grandchild­ren, Alexander Patrick and Sophie. She was predecease­d by her husband, Douglas (Duke) MacDonald; daughter, Camille, and two sons, Dougie (Lorraine) and Ronnie (Estella). Predecease­d by her sisters, Florence Keay, Kathleen “Kay” MacLeod, Mary Cody and brother, Vincent Carroll. Due to covid-19 health restrictio­ns, interment prayers will be held at Resurrecti­on Cemetery on Friday, December 4, 2020 for the immediate family only.
