SYDNEY — Patrons and staff of an electronics retail store at Mayflower Mall were asked to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms if they were there on Nov. 22.

Best Buy, at 800 Grand Lake Rd., was one of seven locations identified by the Nova Scotia Health Authority as a possible exposure site. Released Friday evening, the Nova Scotia Health Authority said people who were at Best Buy or working on Nov. 22 from 3:45-5:15 p.m. should monitor symptoms until Dec. 6.

To date, there are still no cases in the eastern zone.

Mayflower Mall manager Greg Morrison said they have protocols in place for when a retailer in their facility is a COVID-19 potential exposure site but didn't provide details about them.

"I don't want to get too far into it right now," he said during a phone interview Saturday. "The short answer is yes, but we'll have to wait and see. It's too early to tell,"

This is the first time a retailer at the Mayflower Mall has been named a COVID-19 potential exposure site during the second wave of the pandemic and the second business in Cape Breton to be listed.

"It's unfortunate. But obviously in the world we live in right now, it could be expected. Anywhere, it could happen," Morrison said.

Other locations listed in Friday's potential exposure sites include Miller's Your Independent Grocer in Annapolis Royal, Lucky Rabbit in Annapolis Royal, Bainton's Tannery Outlet in Annapolis Royal, Winner's at Highland Square Mall in New Glasgow, Pet Valu in New Glasgow, and Mad Hatter Wine Bar in Annapolis Royal.

Mad Hatter is the only location where the Nova Scotia Health Authority is asking all patrons and staff who were there Nov. 21 between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to book an appointment online for a COVID test regardless of symptoms.
