Florrie Margaret (Wilson) Barrett, age 94, formerly of Glace Bay died peacefully in Halifax on Sunday December 6, 2020. Born in Glace Bay as the youngest child of Hugh D. Wilson, formerly of Kennington Cove, and Mary Kate MacDonald, formerly of Trout Brook. She was predecease­d by her parents; her husband, Llewellyn; sister, Catherine MacKay; and brothers, Donald and John Alex. Florrie is survived by her nephews, Hugh and Keith MacKay. After graduating from Glace Bay High School in 1944, Florrie worked at the Medical Hall Drug Store for two years before attending Normal College in Truro and summer school at Dalhousie University in Halifax to begin a career in education. For the first seven years she taught at Bridgeport School, followed by eleven years at Glace Bay Central, and spent the rest of her career with the Cape Breton County School Board at Donkin. A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Presbyteri­an Church in Glace Bay, in her younger days she participat­ed in C.G.I.T, Mission Band and Golden Circle, and later served as a member of the Greenwood Cemetery Board for twelve years. For the last several years Florrie enjoyed the engaging care and support of the caregivers at Drummond Hall in Halifax. It was her wish that any charitable donations in her memory be made to the Mental Health Associatio­n of Nova Scotia. A graveside service will be arranged at a future date to be determined.
