JACKSON, Sarah Isabella “Aunt Sal”

Age 100, passed away at Camp Hill Halifax on Dec 1, 2020. She was born in Truro on Dec 1, 1920 one of seven children of Lawrence and Elizabeth McAloney. She is the last surviving member of that family. Sisters, Anna, Georgia and Vivian; brothers, Bud, Mervyn and Guy. Sarah grew up and attended Normal College to become a teacher in Truro, but was unable to work in the Nova Sco t ia schools due to her young age and marital status. She then went to St. Catharines, Ontario to train as a nurse. Upon completion of training, she joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and went overseas to care for the wounded during WWII. Upon returning to Canada, she married Earl Jackson and they raised their family in Sydney. Once the family was grown, Sarah returned to teaching and taught at South Bar school until her retirement. Sarah was predecease­d by her husband, Earl and daughter, Rhonda and is survived by her children: son, Arthur (Carol) Grand Desert; grandson, Robert (Cathy) Musquobobi­t Harbour; granddaugh­ters, Annabelle, Vivian and Victoria; grandson, Brian (Jen) Lr. Sackville; granddaugh­ter, Claire; daughter, Susan Conroy (Neil), Kanata On.; grandson, Chad (Liz), Osgoode, On.; great granddaugh­ter, Quinn; great grandson, Josh (Camsell); granddaugh­ter, Andrea ( Justin Cresser), Kampala Uganda; great granddaugh­ters, Maya and Imani. Special thanks to the Bayers Road Baptist Church for their warm welcome and continuing inclusion of Sarah in their church community while she lived in Halifax. Also to the staff at Camp Hill 4 west where Sarah lived for her last year. In lieu of flowers donations to Feed Nova Scotia or Souls harbour would be appreciate­d they were two of her favourite charities. Due to COVID-19 there will be no service at this time, but a celebratio­n of her life will be held in the future. Burial will be in Sydney when restrictio­ns are lifted so all the family can attend.
